5 Great Tips to Help Raise Money at Your Stag

5 great tips to help raise money at your stag

Are you planning your first stag party? From the venue to flower arrangements, it’s no secret that weddings nowadays can be expensive. Whether you’re the groom-to-be or the best man, planning a successful stag party can feel overwhelming at first.

While your main goal is to raise as much money as possible, it’s important to include original and engaging games so you and your guests can have fun. It is a party after all!

If you’re struggling to come up with game ideas, however, don’t fret. Here are our top 5 ideas and tips to help raise money for your upcoming stag party.

1. Choose the right date and venue

Deciding on the date and location is step one of planning any event. Ideally, the stag party date is several months prior to the wedding date so that the couple can use the funds for vendor payments. Some may choose a day when people are likely to go out anyway, for example, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, New Year’s Eve, etc.

Next is the venue. Since your goal is to encourage as many guests to attend as possible, a centrally located and easily accessible location would be best. The venue should preferably have a stage, a bar, and food. If you’re located in the GTA, then consider Château Le Jardin in Vaughan. It is a first-class event space that specializes in hosting weddings, private parties, and more.

2. Choose the right prizes

A raffle is a classic fundraising game and is a favourite for many reasons. It’s fun and exciting—and who doesn’t like the chance to win a prize? However, sourcing the right prizes is key to a successful raffle. It can also make your party more appealing and encourage attendance and participation. The more your guests participate, the more money you will raise.

To choose the best stag prizes, you should consider the interests of your attendees. Are they young and still in college? They might love to win free drinks or concert tickets. Or, maybe they’re older and less interested in alcohol.

More practical prizes like gift cards and sporting gear might be more appealing. Guests will usually also get excited about cash prizes, tickets to local events, and gadgets like a tablet or smartwatch for a grand prize.

3. Get creative

Now it’s time to get creative and brainstorm some games that will help you raise money while your guests are having fun. Here are some of our ideas to get you started:

  • Silent auction: Display the prizes on a table and sell ballots for guests to enter for a chance to win. At the end of the night, draw a name to choose a winner for each prize. You can try contacting local businesses that may be willing to donate baskets, small prizes, or gift cards for free advertising. This will increase your profit margins to go towards wedding costs.
  • 50/50 draw: Set up a bucket and a roll of raffle tickets for purchase at the party’s door. At the end of the night, a randomly drawn winning ticket will win half the money in the bucket, and the other half will go towards the bride and groom.
  • A quiz: This is a great way to get your guests involved and unleash their competitive side. You can even make the quiz questions about the bride and groom. Ask the guests to pay to join the quiz or add features such as paid lifelines, which allows a team to skip a question or phone a friend to raise more money.

4. Spread the word

What’s a party without guests? Once you’ve completed the steps above, it’s time to let your circle know that you’re throwing a stag party. Start a dedicated Facebook event page and get everyone in the wedding party to send texts to their friends and family.

Make sure to let everyone know about the fantastic prizes and that there will be plenty of food, booze, and fun to go around. To broaden your reach, encourage everyone you invite to bring their friends and spread the word.

5. Take care of the legalities

According to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO), you must have a licence to run any gambling, raffle, or lottery games. The AGCO states that games of skill are permitted, while games of chance and 50/50 draws are not without a licence present. Thus, make sure to ask your venue what their requirements are. Some halls have gaming licences, which means you may be permitted to host a raffle.

Have Fun

Your guests understand that the goal of the stag party is to help your groom-to-be with their wedding costs. However, this does not mean that you should try to hustle them. Make sure that they are having fun and they will give more generously.
